Tweeting Live – My First Ever Wedding Video!

Following along with me on this journey!

Who:  Me… Gene Ho. Photographer with over 20 years experience who will do his first ever wedding video and Tweet the event in real time. In 20 years as a pro wedding photographer, I’ve never done a wedding video and I’m welcoming this challenge to fall flat on my face.

What:  I just opened a new Twitter account @GeneHoPhoto. Please follow me. On Friday, May 18th, 2012 – I’ll Tweet my experiences live of my First Wedding Video. I’ll also post my experience here – Good, Bad or Ugly.  And when I’m done editing it – I’ll post highlights of the video here as well.

Where:  The wedding will be held at Edisto Island, SC. Full disclosure. My photo studio  – Gene Ho Photography is shooting the wedding. Nadean Bruehlman of Gene Ho will be the Lead Photographer for the wedding. But I will personally be doing the wedding video by myself. I already approached the bride, told her what I’m doing. The bride is aware that this is my first ever wedding video – that I’m documenting it. The bride is not paying me for what might be a great wedding video – or just might be junk.

When:  Please follow me on my brand new Twitter account @GeneHoPhoto. I’ll start Tweeting as I’m leading up to the wedding on Friday, May 18th, 2012. That day – I’ll give you the play by play live. I have NO IDEA how this is going to go.

Why:  For starters… please let me put to rest to two potential things someone can be critical of:

1) I mean no disrespect to the pro wedding videography community. Many are my friends – and I don’t want you to think that because I have two decades experience in pro wedding photography that I can somehow step into the field of wedding videography and be a success. I know it takes years. It’s just that it’s a challenge I welcome.

2) I am not exploiting my bride. I’m not receiving a dime to video her wedding and she is very well aware that my product might just be total junk. She is allowing me the privilege of doing this on her wedding day and she is just as excited about the opportunity that just maybe – she might have a half-way decent wedding video for free. As it has been said – we all have to start somewhere and most of us still photographers – may have done our first “pro” wedding for free.

That being said… why am I doing this?

The best answer is that it’s a challenge. I kind of liken it to an established pro boxer who welcomes the challenge to enter the mixed martial arts world. It’s kind of the same? But it’s not…

How:  Full disclosure two. I have a pro wedding video studio called Ella Grey Video. I started this company about five years ago on the talents of my staff. So while I personally never shot or edited a wedding… I have a very knowledgeable team that does and will give me pointers before the wedding. I will take this seriously and study up before them.

But for sure – this is my first – and I’m very excited.

HOW THE DAY WENT – Good, Bad or Ugly….

Hey all… the day really went well. First thing I must say is an apology for any video team I have ever worked with. For starters, it’s amazing how often the photographer walk in front my camera.

And that was MY photographers at the event. They certainly weren’t doing it on purpose – but you almost can’t help it. So more than anything – I’ll be more aware of it when I work with you at weddings.

That being said – it was fun. In particular – it’s really fun being in the background. As a wedding photographer – you have a great responsibility to “be in charge.”

Doing video – your really in the background most of the time.

I’m going to post a clip of my work below. I need about another week or so to put it together.

The real challenge that I found was the sound. I did have wireless mics etc… but with the wind blowing it was hard to get good quality.

But I’m going to try and figure out a way to mask that when the final project is done…

CLIP OF THE ACTUAL WEDDING – Ready to fall flat on my face or look like a Rock Star…

Here is the trailer to the wedding… thanks!
