PHOTO JOB BIDDING MADE EASY

There are some jobs that are easy to bid out.

When someone comes to you for a headshot, you should know exactly what to charge.

When you do a wedding - you should know exactly what your price is.

But how about those other jobs?

Or more than that, what if it's a company that wants you to do continual work?

Lets say it's a restaurant or a magazine. And they want you to do work from time to time during the year?

That is great. You’re building relationships.

So how will you bid?

I came up with this system.

It's called, "Easy, Medium, Hard."

Here we go.

The client asks you what you charge for jobs. And the thing is, they have nothing specific in mind.

If I hear that, this is what I tell them...

"If it's an Easy Job, it's $100. If it's a Medium Job, then it's $200. If it's a Hard Job, then it's $400.”

By the way… ignore the dollar amount.

Remember the dollar amounts change. It can be whatever.

But it's the principle of this system.

Then, all you have to tell them is what the "definition" of "Easy, Medium and Hard" is.

Lets say it's a restaurant that wants to hire you for things through out the year.

You say, "Ok... Easy is something like a Headshot. You get a new manager and you need a headshot for a press release.

Medium is something like me going out to a restaurant to take a picture of a new dinner special.

Hard is something like a major staff shoot. say you call me up and I have to take group pictures of the wait staff, the management staff and the chefs.

In short... establish your own dollar numbers for , "Easy, Medium, Hard."

But then to your client - it makes the debate NOT on what you're going to charge - but what you collectively determine the job difficulty is.

I like this system.

I'm NOT a fan of the open ended "...my hourly rate are..."

I know when I hire someone to do a job, I like a big fat round number so I can determine if I can afford them.

Same with this.

You set your price, whatever it may be. But then you let the debate be upon the difficulty of the job.
